What exactly is a Feng Shui remedy ?

A few days ago, I was discussing Feng Shui remedies with a client. Many people think that we need to place remedies in our homes in order to improve our situation. Another client, at the end of the consultation, asked me what object she could put in her home to enhance her Feng Shui. She hadn’t understood that the new orientation of her bed and desk was far more important than the colors or objects you might place in your house. People don’t understand this because it’s what is often said in magazines, and many books talk about it. They say it’s the objects, the remedies, but they don’t actually do anything.

For you, what is a remedy ?

A remedy is an “object” that counters an energy that causes us problems. Okay, but we don’t agree. Remedies don’t really exist. I found a few examples online that are unfortunately incorrect. Even banks are jumping on the Feng Shui trend, but unfortunately, it’s not traditional Feng Shui. Seen on a bank’s website: “When you need money, place a red ribbon with three I Ching coins. Hang them behind your front door. It’s a popular symbol of wealth.”

When I am single and looking for a soulmate, I place Mandarin ducks in my bedroom. Seen on a Feng Shui website: “Place the Mandarin ducks next to your bed, and you will have a harmonious, stable, and lasting relationship. Maintain your devotion and don’t let negative energy influence your love life. If you are married or in a relationship, place the Mandarin ducks in the southwest area of your home to increase your chances of having an excellent romantic relationship.”

Unfortunately, in traditional Feng Shui, remedies do not exist.

If your Yán Nián sector—the area that corresponds to your relationships and favors love and finding a partner—is missing from your home, placing as many Mandarin ducks next to your bed as you like will achieve nothing. In traditional Feng Shui, we talk about energy. We talk about energy that “resonates” with the human body so that we can have better relationships with others, greater prosperity, and so on. Our body resonates with the energies of the space where we live. If you don’t change the “placement” or orientation of your body, your life will not change. To see and feel the benefits of Feng Shui, you must move yourself. Not just rearrange furniture, but actually move yourself: Move your bed so it is in a good sector and correctly oriented, so that when you lie down, you are properly aligned. Move your desk so that when you sit, you are well oriented. Use a new front door…

Forget remedies—remedies in traditional Feng Shui do not exist.

We can place certain elements, like wood—but it must be real wood, such as plants—or metal, to weaken the annual Star 5 and to mitigate certain harmful energies. However, it is never possible to make them disappear entirely. The salt cure is considered a metal element. It involves a chemical reaction between the salt, two different metals, and water. It is a living energy, which is why the salt rises along the edges.
