I rely on Luo Pan measurements, the three classical systems (Ba Zhai for interiors, San He for the immediate environment, San Yuan for temporal factors), and a precise assessment of the wider surroundings. In practice, I begin with a large-scale analysis of the site—examining reliefs, rivers, and the circulation of water and wind. I sometimes use imagery, such as Google Earth, to arrive on site with a clear understanding of the environment. The environment accounts for 70–80% of the overall impact; overlooking a building’s surroundings means ignoring a significant factor. Once on site, I verify and refine my observations, then propose concrete recommendations regarding orientation, room usage, placement of objects, work, and date selection when necessary.
