Land & Construction: Choosing the Right Location for Your House

Choosing a plot of land and building a house is not just a matter of “drawing rooms.” In traditional Feng Shui, the environment has the greatest influence: hills, water, roads, and the surrounding neighborhood. If a plot of land does not capture the right Qi, not even a “perfect house” can fully compensate for it. My role is to read these forces and then position the building and its entrance door so that the house receives the energy that nourishes it.

Why Consult Before Buying

Before any decision is made, I compare several plots of land, take precise on-site measurements using the Luo Pan, and evaluate each plot according to your project (family harmony, health, finances, and the serenity of the location). This allows you to secure the purchase, define the best orientation for the house, and plan the key stages of construction with favorable dates, from laying the foundations to moving in.

What I Assess On Site

External Reading (San He & Yang Gong)

Mountains and hills, valleys, waterways, basins, roads and crossroads, any “arrows,” and the position within the landscape (the Four Animals).

Reception Capacity

The plot’s center, main axes, reception at the (future) gate, and the coherence of access and parking.

Constraints and opportunities

Neighbors, visual barriers, easements, slopes, wind and water patterns, and possible adjustments to guide and channel the Qi.

Design : Layout and Orientation

Based on the measurements, I propose: the orientation of the building, the location of the main door, the layout of the facades, and the room distribution (night/day areas, office, kitchen). I check compatibility with your Ming Gua (Ba Zhai) for sensitive positions (bed, office) and secure the temporal aspect (San Yuan) according to the house’s opening date.

During Construction: A Guiding Principle

Layout

Stakeout and axes, checked to the nearest degree.

Openings

Placement of the front door and important interior doors.

Adjustments

Revisions of plans, circulation, heights, thresholds, and outdoor water features (ponds, collection systems, slopes).

Selection of Dates

Start of major work and Move-In.

Method & Deliverables

Preliminary Study (Mapping and environmental assessments), on-site visits with Luo Pan measurements, layout sketches and orientations, a prioritized action plan, and written recommendations (doors, room layout, circulation), along with proposed key dates. Follow-up is planned during the major stages of construction to validate and refine the process.

Types of Projects Concerned

New detached houses, major extensions, property divisions or parceling, farms to be renovated, and land within housing developments or isolated plots. I work throughout France and abroad, either independently or in collaboration with your architect or project manager.
