How to build a house according to Feng Shui principles ?

The most important thing is to analyze the environment.

Why prioritize the environment?

Feng Shui is a Chinese art that defines the influence of the environment on a living space. The environment accounts for 70 to 80% of the effects. Therefore, if we have a good environment, we will experience 70 to 80% of the beneficial effects. This is why we give it priority. Consequently, the interior in Feng Shui has much less impact.

How to analyze this environment ?

You have two options. The first is to have a training in Traditional Feng Shui and/or a  good training of Yang Gong Feng Shui and do it yourself. The second is to consult a Feng Shui expert or a Feng Shui master. Yang Gong Feng Shui takes into account both the distant and the immediate environment. The distant environment allows for determining the precise orientation of the entrance door. Depending on the practitioner’s skill, you will have a margin of 5° or 1°. Traditional Feng Shui on the other hand, analyzes only the immediate environment. It determines the orientation of the entrance door within a range of 15°, or 5° for the more skilled practitioners.

How can you measure the effects of this environment ?

You must use a professional Feng Shui compass, called a Luo Pan. This highly precise tool allows you to understand the beneficial or harmful effects of the surrounding mountains or bodies of water in relation to the property. The Luo Pan also enables us to assess the influence of rivers, streams, and other water points. These mountains and waters will have an impact on your future life in this home.

Which mountains should we have around our house.

In Feng Shui, we should have a mountain behind the house, called the “turtle,” which supports the foundation and brings family stability and health. One on the right side of the house, called the “tiger,” influences the authority of the women in the household, reputation, and communication. Finally, one on the left, called the “dragon,” influences the authority of the men in the household, career, and finances. These three mountains act as protections for the house. To properly protect the home, all of them should be higher than the house. For optimal effect, the turtle should be the tallest, and the dragon should be higher than the tiger

The shape of the house.

Once we have found the ideal location to build our house, know its exact orientation, and have the protection of the surrounding mountains, we can then define the shape of the house. The ideal shape is square or rectangular. Once this shape is established, the house can be divided into eight equal sectors called trigrams. If the house does not have this shape, missing sectors are created. A missing sector will weaken the corresponding trigram. Since each trigram represents a family member or a human organ, this means the house can weaken that family member or cause health issues. This is why, in Feng Shui, the shape of the house is extremely important.

Defining the Rooms in the House

Now that we have the right location for the house, as well as a square or rectangular shape, we can determine the placement of the rooms. The environment will guide us in deciding where each room should be and how to lay them out on the plan.

With Yang Gong Feng Shui

It is the 12 growth phases of  Yang Gong Feng shui that will determine these placements. These 12 phases indicate where to position the kitchen so that it benefits health, the parents’ bedroom to support their professional life, and the children’s bedroom to promote their academic success. This means that the energy inside your home will be aligned with the energy of the environment. This is far more beneficial, as the rooms will be supported by the surrounding environment.

With Traditional Chinese Feng Shui

It is your date of birth (Ba Zhai) as well as the San Yuan (Flying Stars) that will determine the placement of each room. There will be no correlation between the environment and the rooms of the house. As a result, the effects will be somewhat reduced.

Installing the entrance door

This is a crucial moment in the construction process, as the door must be installed to the exact degree. If we want the energy of the environment to properly influence the house, precision is essential. The entrance door serves as the point of interaction between the environment and the house. As mentioned earlier, the environment accounts for 70% to 80% of the impact on a home; therefore, even a one-degree error can alter the effects on the future occupants.

Our Feng shui interior

We begin by planning the interior of our house according to "Feng Shui" principles. Determining the orientation of beds, desks, and the placement of the stove will further optimize the effects of Feng Shui.

With Yang Gong Feng Shui

It is again the 12 growth phases of the environment that will indicate the best directions to achieve what we desire. If we want Feng Shui to bring us prosperity, a specific direction must be respected. If we want Feng Shui to bring us harmony, a different specific direction must be followed. To refine the effects, we calculate the favorable direction for a bed or a desk, which allows for maximum optimization.

With Traditional Chinese Feng Shui

Our date of birth will determine our positive and negative directions and sectors (Ba Zhai), as well as the San Yuan (Flying Stars). Since the environment is not taken into account, it is possible to find yourself in a good sector according to Ba Zhai and San Yuan, but in an unfavorable one based on the environment.

Feng Shui fountains

It is possible to place  « Feng Shui» fountains both inside and outside the house. Determining the placement of these fountains should be done only at the end of construction or just before or after moving in.

With Yang Gong Feng Shui

Indoor or outdoor fountains will be positioned according to very specific formulas linked to the environment, while also taking into account possible negative effects from the distant environment. These formulas help to mitigate the harmful effects of the distant environment while enhancing the beneficial effects for the house.

With Traditional Chinese Feng Shui

Outdoor fountains will be positioned according to Ba Zhai and San Yuan. Indoor fountains, on the other hand, will be oriented based on the immediate environment and certain San He formulas (nearby environment). They may be slightly less effective if we use the formulas of Yang Gong Feng Shui.

Choosing a good Move-In date

Once you have optimized the construction of your house, the next step is to set the move-in date. By choosing a favorable date, we greatly maximize the positive energies when settling into the home. The date selection should be selected based on your dates of birth.
