Feng Shui and Babies: Which Direction Should the Crib Face?

Feng Shui and Babies: Which Direction Should the Crib Face ?

Traditional Feng Shui can answer many questions about babies’ sleep.

Often, we wonder: Why do babies sleep sideways in their crib ? Why are their nights restless ? Can Feng Shui help ? In Feng Shui, the Ba Zhai system can help answer these questions.

The Ming Gua of babies

Of course, babies—like everyone else—have a Ming Gua. You can calculate it using a simple formula or consult a chart. This will tell you their favorable sectors. As for the direction of the crib, it is more complicated. For details, see the article : on my blog "Feng Shui bedroom and bed orientation".

Feng Shui: What Direction Should a Baby’s Crib Face ?

Naturally, a baby or young child seeks what is best for them, so they instinctively try to position themselves in a favorable direction. They follow their natural feelings. Generally, as we grow older, we stop paying attention to this instinct. A baby, regardless of their group, will often place their head toward a positive direction for them. For example, a child in the East Group might naturally orient their head toward north. However, if the crib is oriented toward a negative direction, such as west, the baby may turn sideways in the crib to find a better direction. Of course, attentive parents often reposition the baby in the center of the crib, unaware that this may not be optimal for them. Over time, the baby may adapt to the negative energy of this direction, eventually lying toward the west. This negative orientation can cause the baby to “experience” or endure the energy, which may become a block or obstacle for them.

What Should Be Done ?

Simply orient the baby’s or child’s bed in the direction they naturally choose to sleep.

Why Do Babies Have Restless Nights ?

Some children have very restless nights, even when placed in a positive direction. In Feng Shui, certain positive directions can have an energy that is too strong for a child, such as Sheng Qi or Tian Yi. For example, for a child with Gua 4, north or south might be a direction that is too strong. This Sheng Qi energy, which is the strongest energy and usually brings success, can be overstimulating for a child. Instead of regenerating sleep, this energy can disturb it, causing the child to become overexcited. Over time, this may result in a child who could be considered hyperactive or who sleeps very little.

What to Do for a Child with Health Issues ?

The best direction to support a child’s health and recovery is called the Heavenly Doctor direction, or Tian Yi. This energy is specifically helpful for convalescence and maintaining good health. For more details, there is another good article on arranging a baby's room.
